Alternate between rubbing liquid laundry detergent and the bleaching agent, rinsing between each application. If the stain still remains, apply a stain remover stick, gel or spray before washing the garment normally, using the hottest water suitable for the clothing. If the stain isn’t all gone, the heat of the dryer could set it permanently. A few additional tricks may be effective at removing stubborn stains that don’t respond to the recommended treatment. Apply household hydrogen peroxide the stain and let it sit for a while before rinsing. If your fabric will hold up to moisture, you can try equal amounts of isopropyl alcohol and water as a cleaner, or experiment with 1 tablespoon ammonia to ½ cup water (though ammonia will damage wool). The primary definition is a concessionaire hawking sweets on trains, circuses, state fairs, and movie theatres. We have no details regarding how these shops operated or what they looked like. Butcher” shops simply capitalizing on a popular phrase, selling penny candy of all sorts? He was so successful, he was able to quit his job as meat butcher. They were expensive, limited to wealthy households or enterprises. They include straight jars presumably for conserves or jams, small, stemmed glasses for jellies and larger ones with lids for sweets and comfits. Before, a scrap of paper wrapped round a sugar stick or twisted into a cone (the origin of the triangular paper bag) was the most one could expect when buying sweets in the street. Smarter confectioners used paper wrappers with cut or fringed ends twisted around sweets. The theory is that the idea was provided by a spark leaping out of the fire one night. Generally, “penny candies” were small, inexpensive, unwrapped pieces sold by weight. Because different candies were sold for different prices, a penny could buy several pieces of small hard candy or one peppermint stick. Another gives prizes for pieces of candy with colored centers, white centers bringing no return. For centuries sugar had been made by pressing short lengths of sugarcane stalks through a roller mechanism until syrup was exuded. Food historians propose the first sweets were consumed as a sort of medical treatment for digestive troubles. As time and technology progressed, so did the art of confectionery. Indeed, the first candies were sugar coated nuts, seeds and fruits. This book has an excellent chapter on the history of confectionery and preserves. An examination of old confectionery texts confirms recipes with these names. Remove from heat and quickly stir in baking soda and vanilla. Were they, in fact, set up to emulate traditional butcher shops selling novel “meat” shaped confections? When others started selling items on the seats they were called butchers also. We must consider that before the advent of pink lemonade and cotton candy they did sell sausages at the circus. Tall straight-sided and later ones with lids are also shown. Functional yet decorative, these became coveted in their own right. His bonbons consisted of several sweets wrapped together in tissue paper, with mottoes enclosed. Gold printing and metal foils repeated this luxury message which gold leaf had given to sweets in earlier centuries. Even more status was attached to special boxes, decroated with pcitures, lined with tissue and paper lace. They were popular, kept well, and sold at a lower price than chocolate while maintaining a luxurious image. They were scooped by the store owner and sold in bags or boxes. These candies appealed to children and poor working people, who did not have much money to spend. By the early 1850s individual candy men could readily obtain the machinery and raw materials necessary to profit from making batches of candy in greater quantities. Billy, acting on the advice of his grief counsellor, participates in the feeding of 701 and enjoys his former sister’s oral ministrations. Joey wasn’t sure whether he was responsible enough to be trusted with the care of one. We all know that you’re the best junior human cattle farmer in these parts. You need to show everyone that you’re ready for responsibility. Though from the outside the barn appeared much like any other, on the inside similarities to convention parted dramatically. In a former existence the cattle residing within the barn may of been considered human. Joey always felt as if he had entered one of those elaborate enclosed shopping malls with a sunlit atrium every time he entered the barn. A couple of stalls located opposite of the stalls occupied by cows each held the masculine counterpart, bulls. Joey knew that well for he had personally helped his father with the hair removal. Frequently the new arrivals would offer quite a bit of resistance during this step. Joey had learned his lesson to ware protective clothing on his first attempt. Joey made her stay in the hair removal bath a bit longer than necessary. All were young and nicely filled out with ample breasts and shapely buttocks. Like so many others, this young cow, still in her late teens, had been only average upon her arrival at the farm. By a combination of special injections and diet the cow’s breasts had increased in size. A second affect of the special conditioning was a leaning out of the cow’s meat. This particular hair style had become the farm’s trade mark. He took particular joy upon seeing her run about the outdoor stockade. Such little details made life on the farm so much more enjoyable. Joey carefully controlled the young cow’s intake of tit and ass food. Joey had attached a small livestock trailer, a short enclosed affair much resembling a horse trailer, to his van into which the young cow would travel to the fair. The last thing to do was to secure their young cow into the livestock trailer. This is an intense story of the raising of humans as livestock and the consumption of human flesh. Under the fair’s rules, that makes her a maverick to be claimed by the first person who finds her. Now the residents of the barn were highly valued farm animals, nothing more. For one, the barn’s interior temperature was strictly regulated. As such, they had to be protected from the vagaries of the outside environment. Multiple sky lights illuminated much of the barn’s interior. Only on the warmest of days would the human cattle be allowed outside. Most of the stalls were occupied by naked human female cattle. One of the first chores to be done upon a new cow’s or bull’s arrival to the farm was a dip in the hair removal bath. After only a couple of hours within the bath and the new cow or bull would emerge as hairless as a newborn babe. It wasn’t unusual for the farm hands to come in contact with the hair removal liquid. A wiry blonde cow had managed to splash some hair removal liquid on his right arm. A couple of years human harvesting later and the hair on his right arm had still not grown back. Most of the cows had been on the farm for awhile and probably had some idea of what lay await for them. After almost six months however the cow had dramatically changed. In contrast to the breast enlargement, the cow’s waist had remained quite narrow. Did you know that tanned cows always receive higher point scores than plain old white ones? He enjoyed seeing the naked cows prance about the open air pen. Like those of all of the other cow’s on the farm, the cow’s head hair had been pulled back into a compact bun extending no lower than her shoulders. However, hearing her ass characterized as nothing more than a romp roast was too much to bear. True to her conditioning though, she still did not say a word. Besides, the publicity generated from the fair should do the farm’s sales good. Balancing the cow’s regime of exercise was her special diet. No doubt sensing that something was up, the cow was noticeably apprehensive and skittish. Transformed from a human being into a bipedal cow, now but a piece of livestock, the young farm animal would travel naked to the fair.

Baking The Perfect Loaf Of French Bread • Steamy Kitchen Recipes by

If you are doing this by hand, then your formula is 6 min-7 min-7 min. Something called gravity makes the dough expand down and flat. Stone or cast iron retains heat and radiates the heat of the oven evenly. Alternatively, place a metal loaf pan or baking sheet on the very bottom rack of the oven, off to one side. Once you put the bread into the oven, pour 1/2 cup water into the hot pan. Once you put the loaf into the very hot pot, throw in the water and over the lid immediately. Pour in the warm water and with your regular mixer paddle, mix on low speed until the dough comes together in a mass. If you are using a loaf pan for steam, also place that into the oven, on the very bottom rack, off to one side of the oven. Poke your finger on the surface – the dough should give into the pressure and slowly creep back up. This allows the bread to rise & expand up and out evenly. After bread is done rising, take a sharp paring knife and make 3-4 shallow, diagonal slashes on the surface of the loaf. When you are ready to bake, remove your baking vessel from oven. Open the stove, put your bread in the oven and throw the water on the oven floor or in the pre-heated loaf pan. I used a convection oven with specific double vented loaf pans for french bread. Ran through it the first time with 2 minor tweaks; used whey instead of water for restaurant flavor (see this site for how to make ricotta) and doubled all quantities to make 4 loafs. I wouldn’t allow the oven to get above say…75 or so degrees f. Your dough should be tacky but none shoul d stick to your hand. I can stop & start the machine for the required minutes. Thank you for the helpful hints at the top of the recipe! Let it rest for 7 and then knead again for another 3 minutes. Letting the dough rest at this stage allows the gluten to relax, redistribute, and get all cozy. After the brief rest, you’ll feel a difference in the dough. It’s a technique that professional bakers recommend for home ovens (professional ovens have a built in steamers). Since the pan has been heated, it will produce the steam required. I have an electric oven (heating element is on the top of oven). Put 1/4 cup of bread flour on your clean counter top and reserve. Spoon the yeast on one side of the bowl, and the salt on the other side. As you knead the dough by hand, incorporate more flour as you need. Cover with plastic wrap and set in warm place for 1 1/2 hours to let rest and rise. After the dough has risen fully, punch dough down and form back into a ball. This is important – you want to make sure that all ends including the short ends are pinched tightly to create a seal. If the bread looks a little lopsided, you can try to fix it by letting it rest 5 minutes and gently stretching it out again. Leave the loaves to rest on your well-floured pizza peel or cutting board for 30 minutes. Carefully slide the gorgeous loaf into or onto your baking vessel. I was skeptical with mixing all the flour with the yeast and salt. Cooked on a high end gas grill with a 2 inch slab of marble. Alternatively you could turn your oven on, allow it to just start to warm up but not get hot, turn off the oven and place the dough in the warm oven to rise (proof) with the door closed. Proofing time can vary, one and one half to two hours may be nessasary. Also placing a small pan with boiling water in the oven makes a great environment for allowing dough to rise. You’ll just have to keep an eye on it and make sure it doesn’t get overcooked. She is actually quite compassionate and dedicates a lot if her time helping rescuing abused animals.
