Now, whenever we make trips back to the central coast, we have a bread bowl with the clam chowder, as well as the seafood options and clams. The line usually wraps around the entrance, but that really is a part of the experience. Seating is limited inside, we got lucky and was able to find seating at a table. The fish seemed like it was just microwaved or put in the oven, store bought.The fries were good, but would have been a lot better if they weren’t cold! I would have say this was on the salty side knocking down a star on this place. The sauce was plain and the clams were tiny but at least fresh. The carrot hot sauce they have at the restaurant was interesting and just try if you can handle hot sauce. Was going to rate it 2 stars but added 3 stars for the nice cashier man who gave us a good service. The clam chowder were just okay but the fish & chips were the very bland and hard to swallow.

Creamy but not too heavy, a decent potato/broth/clam ratio, and a variety of spices that definitely make it distinguishable from other chowders. There’s nothing more relaxing than chilling on the beach with a delicious bowl of chowder. When it’s busy (usually during the daytime, and anytime during the summer), parking is horrendous. Love that they give bread on the side as well to dip into the chowder. After finishing the chowder, eat the bowl if you can! The crab and shrimp atop your chowder bowl is always pristine and tasty. Along with the fresh toppings, the freshly cut and grilled sourdough simply perfects their thick tasty chowder. We needed something to eat beforehand that wasn’t too heavy but good so we could stuff ourselves with something else later. Still blown away by the genius concept of adding toppings to the chowder. Say what lol they are very giving, just try if you’re in the area. The others are just extra or for if you want to be over the top which is fine, whatever you crave. Not even sure if if was imitation crab as others have said because it was so cheap.The other thing we tried was the highly recommended calamari and fries. I would still recommend this because the calamari was that good. Breaking off pieces of the bread and dipping it into the chowder is something you shouldn’t miss out on. There is a lot of shops to help walk off all that you eat, too. All the crab that was on top was just too much, took away from the whole soup! Sunday we went around the same time and it was less crowded but definitely still a line, this time only a few feet out the door. Parking can be tough but drive around the block and you may find a spot in the parking lot. Out of the fried food– the fish was good, fries were bland and the shrimp was decent. It was nice to experiences pismo’s award winning clam chowder though. This is definitely one of those unique place where they focus on a few things and perfected it. I was very happy with how well they packaged my chowder bowl. Crust had a gummy crispiness and the bread had a good amount of acidity. The buttered and toasted bread they carve out for you to dip is just as amazing. Decided to share a pint of the clam chowder and added cheese, green onion, and seafood topping. The cool thing about the bread bowl is that they grill the bowl and they grill the bread that they take from the inside of the bowl so it’s hot and soft for you to dip in the soup. The calamari was so tender and the tartar sauce was really flavorful and a good accompaniment. The portions of the calamari are like a third of the whole dish because they flood it with under cooked curly fries that had barely any seasoning on it. Overall this is a must try and the place is small and there’s going to be a line but it goes fast and is well worth it.
