HUMI CARE HX10 Crystal Gel Rectangle Humidifier by

The crystal gels inside expand after absorbing distilled water and contract when it’s ready for a refill!

This is due to more effective crystals, which absorb the water at a faster rate and have increased water capacity. It provides a constant humidity level at about 70% for about a month. The initial soaking is an hour, but after that, they’ll reach target humidity in just a few short hours. I put them in water as instructed and they all came apart with little balls all over. Left it in a jar of distilled water for hours and the gels absorbed too much water and busted out of the case. I had trouble in the past achieving proper humility with the stock humildifier. Inside are specially formulated crystals containing propylene glycol to chemically balance the humidity level in your humidor.

Each refill thereafter will only take approximately 5 minutes. I have a troublesome humidor that couldn’t stay at the right temp and humidity with the cheap humidifier that came with the humidor. I have several and they last longer than most other passive devices. My big humidor has an electric humidifier but these work good in my desktop humidor. I regrouped them, put some gels in a tiny bowl and snapped the case back together and put the case and bowl in my humidor.

Supplies For Alcohol Ink Painting by

There are only a few that are necessary and many that are downright frivolous. Cosmetic sponges/pads – can be used to lift, blend, or add texture to a painting. Erasers – for erasing pencil marks and sometimes rubbing off tiny bits of ink. Keep in mind that to clean alcohol inks out of paintbrushes, you must use alcohol (or alcohol blending solution). I imagine it’s taken years for you to discover a purpose for all of those things.

Then spray on caliper paint, let dry then bake in “old” toaster over for 1 hr at 200 degrees. I was wondering if you have come across a “tried & true” sealer that you could recommend?

I was looking for something that would protect the pieces as coasters from condensation & moisture and keep pieces from scratching or chipping off. I have only used store-bought boards that were already prepared with gesso. It works, for the most part, but if it’s too heavy an application of alcohol ink, it can start to remove the fixatif. It is very close to the commercial one, slows down drying for better blending. I see that as long as you let alcohol touch it, the ink changes. I need some help as the aluminum has a powder coated finish of pink.

Do you have any tips on how to remove the paint on the aluminum?

Artist pens – same as the above, but smaller line thickness. Alcohol ink applicator felt – attaches to alcohol ink applicator (12) and is used as noted above in 13. Toothpicks – you might want to use a toothpick to really get into nitty gritty details…or to remove that bit of lettuce from your front teeth. Straws – you can use a straw to blow ink or alcohol/blending solution around. Seriously, you can create a painting with only those two things and nothing else but your hands. What you need and what you don’t need for alcohol ink painting will ultimately depend on you. Sometimes it’s difficult to find things which others are using to get amazing results. I am a testament to the fact that all you need is ink and paper. Any knowledge you could share on the subject would be greatly appreciated. I know there have been many discussions about proper sealing, especially where tiles are concerned.Thank for informing me that you don’t teach due to your busy schedule etc. I would say just play with it on some scrap paper and see how it goes. Or some other kind of panel that doesn’t require framing?

Any surface that’s non-porous (or one that is porous but prepared with something slick like gel medium, gesso, etc.) should do. I was wondering if you have any tips on fixing the ink to any of the substrates.
